How the links work

Why we tell you this
Because you should be able to weigh our recommendations knowing where our money comes from. Commission is what makes it possible to buy the services we test and to keep the site free. It is also, honestly, a pressure we have to manage: a reviewer paid per signup has an incentive to recommend signing up. Our answer to that is to say plainly, in every comparison, who should not use the service we picked, and to tell you when filing directly with the state yourself is the cheaper and better option. It often is.
