Chriss R. has run his own construction business for nearly three decades, since taking it over from his father at 22. He trained as an industrial engineer, specializing in IT and computer systems maintenance, and spent years teaching it as an in-person trainer before COVID made that impossible in 2020. That's when he formed Net Studio LLC, to keep training online and build out AI-related services instead. Between that, the construction business, and four sons, he now runs everything remotely from his office: estimates, contracts, and follow-up, all on a computer rather than on site. He writes here about setting up and running an LLC from firsthand experience, not theory.

LLC State Hub answers one question properly: which state should you form your LLC in, and what will it actually cost you to keep it alive?

That question is badly served online. Search it and you get two kinds of page: marketing from companies that sell formation services, and thin summaries that copy each other’s numbers until nobody knows which state raised its annual report fee last year. Meanwhile the answer genuinely differs depending on where you live, whether you are a US resident, and what your business does.

Who writes this

Chriss R. I run this site and write every guide on it. I file the paperwork myself, I order the formation services I compare with my own money, and I keep the receipts. My method is set out in full on the How We Test page.

I am not an attorney and not a CPA. Nothing here is legal or tax advice. What I can give you is accurate, dated, primary-source information about fees, deadlines and processing times, plus a first-hand account of what buying from each provider is actually like.

What you will find

State guides — filing fee, annual obligations, privacy rules and real processing times, state by state, each with the date last verified.
Non-resident guides — EIN without an SSN, banking, tax treatment and state choice for founders outside the US. This is where the published advice is weakest and where we spend the most effort.
Service comparisons — formation and registered agent providers, bought and used rather than summarised from their own websites.
Compliance — what happens after formation, which is where most people get caught out.

What you will not find

Invented ratings out of ten. Price tables that go stale. A single “best state for everyone” — Wyoming is a fine default and a poor choice for plenty of people, and we will say which. And no pretence that you always need to pay someone: for a simple single-member LLC, filing directly with the state is often cheaper and perfectly manageable, and we will tell you when that is the case even though we earn nothing from it.
